Learning to play the piano

Lessons are £15 / 30 mins/30, 45 or 60 minute lessons can be booked.

Enjoyment facilitates learning and so I aim for my lessons to be, above all, enjoyable. I have a dedicated room to deliver lessons with two pianos side-by-side, one for the pupil and one for myself. This offers the advantages of maintaining a social distance when playing together and enabling me to play in exactly the same register as the pupil where necessary.

In the early stages of learning to play the piano, making the important link between sight (of notes on the page), touch (of the keys) and sound (from the piano) is all-consuming! With practice, it becomes second nature and then I plan my piano lessons broadly around five different aspects: scales, pieces, listening skills, sight-reading and theory. Depending on where each student is at their stage of learning, any one of those aspects might be weighted more than another within a lesson or not focused on at all.

I have a multidisciplinary approach to learning myself, therefore in my teaching I always keep an open mind and try to find different methods of teaching to suit different types of learners.
