Hello, my name is Nicola Bishop. I teach in schools as a tutor with Essex Music Services and also offer private tuition from my home in Chelmsford. I have over 25 years experience teaching whole classes, small groups and one-to-one in schools around Essex. I have a BMus (Hons) from Sheffield University and a PGCE (Primary) with Music Specialism from Reading University.
Lessons are £15 / 30 mins/30, 45 or 60 minute lessons can be booked.
I offer private piano lessons at my house on most weekdays and Saturdays. I do teach from a piano, but there is no requirement to have the same in your home: a keyboard or electric piano of any variety is sufficient - anything that encourages music to be played!
Oboes can be hired via Essex Music Services (or from private music shops) to enable you to have lessons on this beautiful woodwind instrument without the expense of buying one. As a short-term alternative, I can also begin teaching the oboe by using a recorder for a few lessons.
The theory of music is always underpinning the practical, so is intrinsically linked within my piano and oboe lessons. However, Music Theory can also be studied as a separate subject - in fact it is one option to take in order to progress to the higher grades in certain exam boards.
